How it works

Where the money comes from

Exchanges keep paying a referrer a slice of the fees generated by the users they bring in. Sign up through a YouTube or Telegram link and that slice goes to them. This service holds a direct partnership with the exchange, receives the same slice, and passes most of it back to the person who actually traded.

If you signed up through a referral link

Part of every fee you pay keeps going to whoever owns the link. You get nothing back, or a one-time discount at most.

If you signed up through cashback

That same slice comes back to you. It accrues for as long as you trade, and you receive it in USDT.

Self-referral is not recommended

It means opening several accounts and using your own referral code. Most exchanges forbid this in their terms, and accounts can be suspended.

The official partnership route

The share comes from a partnership with the exchange, so there is no need for multiple accounts.

Nothing about how you trade has to change.

Connect

Where to find your exchange UID

A UID is the number an exchange assigns to each account. Registering it is what lets the fees you have paid be tracked. It is not a password or an API key, so sharing it does not hand over your account.

  • BinanceTap the person icon at the top right of the app and you will see a number under your name. That is your UID.
  • BybitThe UID is shown at the top of the account screen. Tap it to copy.
  • Bitget · OKX · GateAll of them show the UID near the top of the account or profile screen. Depending on the exchange it is labelled "UID" or "User ID".
  • WOO X ProLook in your account settings. Screen layouts can change when an exchange updates its app.

Registering the UID is all it takes. Never enter your exchange password, two-factor authentication codes, or an API key with withdrawal permissions anywhere. Anywhere that asks for those is not a cashback service.

Payouts

When and how you get paid

When it accrues

It is credited after the exchange passes on the fee data. Rather than showing up the moment you trade, it usually appears a day or two later.

How you receive it

You request the accrued amount and receive it in USDT. Minimums and payout schedules follow the figures given in the service information.

How it is calculated

The basis is the fees you actually paid. Because it is the fees and not the trade size, the lower your fee tier, the smaller the amount that comes back.

Why rates differ

Partnership terms differ from exchange to exchange. Even within the same exchange, the rate for spot and futures can differ.

Glossary

Terms you may not have seen before

  • Cashback (rebate)Getting back part of the fees you paid to an exchange. Unlike a discount, it comes back after the trade is done.
  • UIDThe number an exchange assigns to each account. It is used only to identify whose trades are whose.
  • Maker · TakerPlacing an order on the order book makes you a maker; filling an order that is already there makes you a taker. Taker fees are usually higher.
  • Spot · FuturesSpot means actually buying and selling coins, while futures are contracts that take a position on price movements. Their fee structures are different.
  • Self-referralSigning yourself up with your own referral code. Most exchanges forbid it in their terms.
Frequently asked questions

Common questions

What is futures trading? How is it different from spot?

Spot trading is a way of buying a coin and owning it directly, right away. Futures trading is a way of entering into a contract based on the price of a coin without holding the coin itself. The biggest difference is whether you actually own the coin. The official TetherMax guidance explains payback based on futures trading.

How much of the fee comes back?

The official TetherMax guidance explains that up to 90% of the fees you pay on futures trading at partner exchanges is returned in USDT. The maximum of 90% does not apply equally to every exchange. The actual rate differs from exchange to exchange, so please check the table above.

Does it accrue on both spot and futures?

The official TetherMax guidance explains payback based on the fees you pay on futures trading. Whether spot trading also qualifies for payback is not stated in the official guidance. If you mainly trade spot, please sign up and ask them to confirm.

Can I use an exchange account I already have?

A newly opened account links straight away. An existing account may or may not be linkable, depending on the exchange. Ask support after signing up.

Do I have to change how I trade?

You do not need to change the way you trade. Once you have linked your UID, it builds up automatically every time you trade. That said, the official TetherMax guidance explains this based on the fees you pay on futures trading at partner exchanges.

Do I have to hand over my funds?

No. Your exchange account and funds stay under your control. Linking only allows your trading volume to be checked.

In what form and where does the money I get back arrive?

The money you get back is in USDT. TetherMax states that once you meet the minimum amount and request a withdrawal, it is deposited into the exchange account you have linked.

When can I withdraw?

If the payback and event rewards built up on one UID come to 10 USDT or more in total, you can request a withdrawal. TetherMax states that once you meet the condition and apply, it is deposited into your exchange account within about 5 minutes to 1 hour. However, when payback is credited and how often it is updated differ from exchange to exchange.

How are event rewards different from payback?

Payback is money that comes back out of the trading fees you have paid, while an event reward is a share you receive separately from trading. Event rewards can only be withdrawn along with payback, up to the amount of payback built up on the same UID. In other words, you cannot withdraw event rewards beyond the amount of your payback.

Do you have to sign up to receive it?

TetherMax members log in and request a withdrawal on the TetherMax home page. TetherMax states that even if you are not a member you can choose an exchange on the TetherMax home page, enter your UID and apply. Either way, the minimum amount condition has to be met. This site only provides information, so the withdrawal request is made on the TetherMax screen.

Does it cost anything?

There is nothing extra to pay to join or use it. You are simply getting part of your exchange fees back.

Is my account at risk if I share my UID?

A UID is only a number that identifies an account, so on its own it cannot be used to log in or withdraw. That said, never enter your password, two-factor authentication codes, or an API key with withdrawal permissions anywhere.

Can I link several exchanges at once?

Yes. Register each exchange you use and cashback accrues separately, based on the fees you paid at each one.

Can I combine this with an exchange tier discount?

They usually apply together. But if a tier discount lowers the fee itself, the amount returned goes down accordingly.

Can I stop partway through?

Unlink and nothing accrues from that point on. Your exchange account itself is unaffected.

Is it all right to trade more in order to get more payback?

Payback means getting back part of the fees you have paid. Even when you get it back, the fact that you paid the fee does not change, so if you trade more, the amount you pay grows as well. Check the example amount table above to see how much actually remains. We do not recommend trading more for the sake of payback.

What are leverage and liquidation?

Leverage is a way of trading a larger amount with a small amount of money. Because profits and losses both grow several times over, even a small move against you can lead to liquidation. Liquidation is when the exchange forcibly closes out your trade to stop the loss from growing any further. The beginner principle in the official TetherMax guidance is not to use excessive leverage.

They say the crypto market is open 24 hours a day, so what should I watch out for?

The crypto market never closes, so you can trade day or night, and on weekends and public holidays as well. You can react to the news right away, but the risk on the trades you have open also continues 24 hours a day. Coin prices move far more sharply than stocks, so the opportunities and the risks are just as large. That is why it is important to check your open trades often.

Good to know

Check before you start

  • Existing accountsAn account already opened under a different referral code may not be linkable. It depends on the exchange's policy, so sign up and then ask to confirm.
  • Rates changeIf the partnership terms with an exchange change, so does the share returned. Check the "as of" date shown with the table on screen.
  • No fees, no cashbackIf you do not trade, nothing accrues. Trading more than you need to just to earn cashback can easily leave you worse off.
  • Risk of losing your capitalTrading crypto itself carries the risk of losing your capital. Cashback only returns part of your fees; it does not make up for losses.
  • TaxTax treatment of the amounts returned differs from country to country. Please check the rules in your country of residence.

Start by checking the exchange you use

Sign up, link your exchange UID, and cashback starts accruing from your next trade.

This is not the official site; it is a guide that also provides a referral link. The button above is a referral link. Cashback rates, payout schedules and supported exchanges can change, so check the official information before signing up. Trading crypto can lose you money, and nothing here is investment advice.
